Mammootty Upcoming Movies: Megastar of Malayalam film industry Mammootty has already multiple releases this year with the movies ‘Bheeshma Parvam’, ‘CBI 5: The Brain’, ‘Puzhu’. Bheeshma Parvam was declared one of the biggest blockbusters in Malayalam for the year 2022 already. His film ‘Puzhu’ has skipped the theatrical release and was premiered directly on Sony Liv.
It was in the 1971 film Anubhavangal Paalichakal that Mammootty made his acting debut, albeit he did not receive any credit for his work. Kaalachakram, released in 1973, was his acting debut. However, it wasn’t until 1980 with the release of films like Mela and Vilkkanundu Swapnangal that the actor finally found success (1980). Mammootty’s first Kerala State Film Award came in 1981 for the I. V. Sasi film Ahimsa, for which he received the award for Best Supporting Actor.
During the 1980s, the actor performed in more than 200 films and worked closely with top filmmakers and screenwriters like I. V. Sasi, K. G. George, Padmarajan, M. T. Vasudevan Nair, Bharathan, P. G. Viswambharan, K. Madhu, and Joshi. Athirathram (1984), Adiyozhukkukal (1984), Thinkalaazhcha Nalla Divasam (1985), Avidaathepole Ivideyum (1985), Yathra (1985), Nirakkoottu (1985), Kariyila Kattu Pole (1986), Aavanazhi (1986), New Delhi (1987), Thaniyavarthanam (1987), Anantaram (1987), Or (1989). The actor received his first National Award for his portrayal of the folk hero Chandu Chekavar in the epic film Oru Vadakkan Veeragatha, after winning Kerala State Film Awards for his performances in Adiyozhukkukal and Yathra in consecutive years. The film also took home a Golden Globe for Best Picture and a National Award for Best Screenplay.
